ONU Engineering students spent two days in February teaching second and third graders about kinetic and potential energy. Elementary students worked in small groups of 3-4 per university student. Each group had a kit with an adjustable ramp and set of cars to experiment and explore. Students loved the hands on activities and the opportunity to interact with these great role models.

Our fifth grade enjoyed a “field” trip for Snapology! There were 4 stations to explore with Legos. The first station was building and launching a catapult. The second station was building a bridge that would withstand the force of an “earthquake!” At the third station, students created a “bumper car” with a motor and actually moved! Finally, students created a marble maze. It was amazing to see how well our students synergized with their creativity!
Congratulations to Mrs. Cox for being awarded this week’s flag of inspiration! The work she does in her classroom has been recognized many times throughout the year in our Wildcat Inspirations. Thank you Mrs. Cox and Mrs. Brown for all you do for the students of KES and for inspiring all to inquire, dream, and excel.
Our Elementary STEM education Grades 4-6 connected with a speaker in our community, Mr. Matt Jennings. He was able to come and share his love for our town, our community, our KES, and his love of flying his airplane in and around Kenton, Ohio. Some of our students videotaped his speech with iPads since he was only able to come in one day due to his job obligations. The students were proud to videotape and knew it was a way the other classes would be able to see his speech as well. He inspired all our students to look at their hobbies and connect them to their future learning opportunities. He did an awesome job building interest for our upcoming STEM projects related to math, science, engineering, inventing, and design of paper airplanes, boomerangs, and various flying machines. Here are a few pictures from that day.
The KES fifth grade students will present their “Destination: Rock and Roll” music program on Monday, February 11th at 5:30PM. Grandparents and other family members who are unable to attend the evening performance are welcome to attend the dress rehearsal. Please come to the school office upon arrival.
