Cheerleading Clinics and Tryouts


Cheerleading clinics and tryouts for middle school and high school will be March 19th – 23rd.  Clinics will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 6 PM – 8 PM at the Kenton Middle School.  There will be a short parent meeting on Monday, March 19th at 7:45 PM in the gym.

Tryouts will be Friday, March 23rd.  High school will start warm ups at 4:30 PM and tryouts at 5:00 PM.  Middle school will start warm ups at 5:30 PM and tryouts will start immediately following high school.

Tryout Requirements:
Candidates will be expected to do the following:

  • Group cheer
  • Group chants
  • Individual cheer (high school only)
  • Fight song
  • Dance (high school only)
  • Jumps
  • Tumbling skills
  • Sign (high school only)

Tryout Policies:

  1. Attend all clinics.
  2. Candidates that make the squad will be required to follow all cheerleading rules and meet all financial deadlines.
  3. All permission slips must be signed and returned, or candidates cannot tryout.
  4. During tryouts, candidates are not permitted to wear any clothing that refers to cheerleading in any manner.  (white shirt, black shorts, white shoes, sport socks, and hair pulled up)
  5. Results will be posted on the gym door of the middle school on Friday, March 23rd.
  6. All candidates must leave school grounds after their tryout.
  7. Cheerleading candidates, friends, and family members must not call the school to protest tryout results.  The judge’s decisions are final.  Failure to comply may result in a candidate’s losing a spot on the team or the privilege of trying out the following year.
  8. All warm up jackets, warm up pants, and poms must be turned into the office by March 16th at 3:00 PM (high school only).

Games for Kindergarten Students


The Kindergarten Lighthouse Team met in January.  They were asked to think about ways to make our school better.  One thing they all agreed on was having board games for their classrooms.

In February, they were presented with games for their classrooms.  All kindergarten and preschool classrooms received 2 board games.

Top Dog Challenge – Boys vs Girls Coin Drive


It’s time for an “All for Books” Boys vs Girls Coin Drive!
March 5th – March 9th

All money raised will help us buy books for students and teachers here at KES!  Please bring in your LOOSE CHANGE each day so we can see who the TOP DOG is!

The GROUP that brings in the most money that week will not only have bragging rights for TOP DOG, but they get to vote on which color to COLOR OUT the school with on March 14th!  Let’s go Boys vs Girls!

  • Meow Monday:  Dig deep into the couch cushions and bring in your PENNIES!  They are small, but each one makes a big difference!
  • Tiny Dog Tuesday:  Bring in your tiny NICKELS!
  • Wednesday Whiskers:  Be the “King of the Beasts” today and bring in your DIMES!
  • Take a Walk Thursday:  Take a walk on the wild side and bring in your QUARTERS!
  • Go Fetch Friday:  Be good and run back with ANY KIND OF DONATION TODAY!  This is our last day for “All for Books” and to build our school library.

Wildcat Walk and Run 5K


The KES PTO will be hosting a 5K Event called the, “Wildcat Walk and Run” on April 28th.

  • Kids Fun Run, 9:00 AM, $5
  • 5K Run/Walk – Student Registration (4 – 18 years old), 9:30 AM, $15
  • 5K Run/Walk – Adult Registration (19 years and older), 9:30 AM, $25

Come help KES kick off Teacher Appreciation Week with the Wildcat Walk and Run 5K!  This is a fast, flat, and easy course near the elementary school; perfect for runners and walkers alike!

Proceeds go to the Kenton Elementary School enrichment programs, community events, and other student activities funded by the KES PTO.

Read Across America Spirit Week


February 26th – March 2nd

We are celebrating reading and Dr. Seuss’s birthday!  Each day we will feature a different book.

Monday:  “I’m Not Going to Get Up Today” (Wear pajamas to school!)

Tuesday:  “Fox in Socks” (Wear crazy socks!)

Wednesday:  “Wacky Wednesday” (Wear mismatched clothes or wacky hair!)

Thursday:  “Cat in the Hat” (Wear your favorite hat!)

Friday:  “Green Eggs and Ham” (Wear green clothes!)


D Pod Dance was a Success!


The D Pod Dance was a success!  Special thanks to our kids and anyone who volunteered, as well as, anyone who donated items!  Over $1200 will be donated to Not By Choice!  Special thanks to Rebecca Browning and Kelli Bostelman for co-chairing this event and to Brad Heckathorn for DJ-ing…what a great night!

Spring Scholastic Book Fair


Our Spring Scholastic Book Fair is just around the pet bed on March 8th – March 16th. 

There will be a wonderful selection of engaging and affordable books for every level.  Please make plans to visit our Book Fair and be involved in shaping your child’s reading habits.

Book Fair Dates:  Thursday, March 6th – Friday, March 16th
Shopping Hours:  7:30 AM – 3:30 PM

Family Movie Night:  March 9th, 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Join us for our Paws for Books Family and Friends Event!  Shop our Book Fair and join us for a movie, snacks, and games and maybe some surprise guests!

KCS Preschool and Kindergarten Registration and Screening Process


Preschool and Kindergarten registration/screening process for the Kenton City School District will be held April 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th at the Kenton Elementary School, 631 Silver Street, Kenton, Ohio.

Parents need to schedule an appointment with Carol Scott, Administrative Assistant, at 419-673-7248, extension 1001.  Calls will be accepted Monday, February 12, 2018 to Monday, March 26, 2018.

At your scheduled appointment, please bring your child’s:

  • birth certificate (not birth record)
  • social security card
  • immunization record
  • custody papers (if applicable)
  • physical (dated January 1, 2018 or after)
  • photo ID
  • proof of residency

To register for Preschool, your child must be three years old on or before August 1, 2018.
To register for Kindergarten, your child must be five years old on or before August 1, 2018.
