Jump Rope for Heart 2017


Thank you to all of the students who participated in KES’s annual Jump Rope for Heart.  Families, community organizations, and staff contributed $5,462.19.  Thank you for supporting the American Heart Association in their fight to decrease cardiovascular diseases.

The top fundraiser was Halleigh Jones with over $300 raised.  Gavin Boyle had over $200.  We had 128 participants in grades one though six.  Prizes will be delivered in early April.

PTO Officer Nominations for PTO Board 2017-2018


The KES PTO is currently seeking nominations to fill the open positions for the below-listed offices for the 2017-2018 school year.  The deadline for PTO Officer Nomination submission is at the start of the PTO meeting on Thursday, April 6th, 2017.

All interested candidates must attend BOTH PTO meetings on April 6th and May 4th.  The election will take place on Thursday, May 4th at 6:30 PM in the KES Auxiliary Gym.  Only those present at the May PTO meeting can vote.  No absentee voting permitted.  For any questions, contact the current PTO Board at:

2017-2018 PTO Board Officer Position Descriptions

Serves as principal executive officer of the organization.  (Per the bylaws, April Miller, current Vice President, will fill this role for 2017-2018.)

Vice President
Facilitates PTO communication to parents and teachers via email.  Oversees and manages volunteers via Sign-Up Genius.  Acts as aide to the president and performs the president duties in the absence or inability of the president.  The 2017-2018 Vice President will move into President position for the 2018-2019 school year.  (2 year term)

Keeps and prepares the meeting minutes of the membership and board.  Must attend monthly PTO meetings and Board meetings to record proceedings.  Prepares meeting agenda with the President and maintains official records .  Submits information for the PTO Corner in the KES Newsletter.  (1 year term)

Responsible for all funds of the organization.  Reports account balance at membership or monthly meetings.  Collects and deposits PTO monies.  (1 year term)

Communications Officer
Prepares all external communication on behalf of PTO, including:  PTO Facebook Page posts, or other social media, and newspaper.  Contacts news media for events and create event flyers.  (1 year term)

PTO Nomination Forms were sent home with students.  Additional forms are available in the school office.

School Delays and Closings Information


In the event that KCS would be on a two hour delay, school would begin at 10:00 AM.  No breakfast is served on days with two hour delays.

In the event that KCS would be on a three hour delay, school would begin at 11:00 AM and end at 3:30 PM.  No breakfast is served on days with three hour delays.

Any delay and closings will be announced on WKTN 95.3 FM, WLIO Lima, and Columbus 4, 6, and 10.

Online delay information may be obtained at and will be sent through the “Blackboard Connect” phone system to all those who are registered.

KES Kroger Community Rewards


Did you know?  Each year, Kroger gives money to Kenton Elementary School when you use your Kroger card.  Grandparents, friends, and neighbors can also link their Kroger Card to KES.

Reminder of Transportation Note Changes to Teachers


Due to the large number of students at Kenton Elementary School, it is important to include the following information on notes sent to the teachers regarding transportation changes:

  • Student’s full name
  • Teacher’s name
  • Name and address of the place where the student is going to (only if it is NOT their home address)

By providing this information, it will help eliminate confusion for staff and students at the end of the day.

Kindergarten and Preschool Registration and Screening Process


Kindergarten and Preschool registration and screening process for the Kenton City School District will be held April 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th at the Kenton Elementary School, 631 Silver Street, Kenton, Ohio.

Parents need to schedule an appointment with Carol Scott, Administrative Assistant at 419-673-7248, extension 1001.  Please call prior to Monday, March 27th.

At your scheduled appointment, please bring:

  • Your child’s birth certificate (NOT birth record)
  • social security card
  • immunization record
  • custody papers (if applicable)
  • physical (dated January 1, 2017)
  • photo ID
  • proof of residency

To register for Kindergarten, your child must be five years old on or before August 1, 2017.  We look forward to working with you and your child.
