D-Pod Dance a Success!

f08318f4-e85e-431d-998f-79bd35702a61

The D-Pod (5th and 6th grades) Valentine’s “Under the Sea” Dance was a hit on February 12th.  It could not have happened without all the great parent volunteers who helped chaperone, as well as, provided snacks and refreshments.  Special thanks to Brad Heckathorn for DJ-ing the event.  Funds were raised from the ticket sales and concession sales and donated to benefit the family of KES student Blaze Keim.

Many thanks again to D-Pod Dance Committee members:  Natalie Horton, Jarron Willoby, Kailie Mullett, Tyson Lawrence, Caleb Harp Pulfer, Seth Manns, Madison Fillinger, Hailey Melvin, Lauren Bartlett, Hannah Beach, Chelsea Kalb, and Joslyn Stauffer.

Huge thanks to all the parents who made the Valentine’s Dance a success:  Jen McPherson, Michelle Heckathorn, Larissa Harpel, Teresa Horton, Matt Jennings, Alyssa and Kyle Johnston, Shana Stout, Jennifer Spencer, Shannon Allmon, Anne Temple, Crystal Boyle, Rhonda and Bert Grubbs, Tina Hunt, Heather Wedertz, Liz Purdy, Beth Hopkins, Megan Defibaugh, Jeri Clum, Becky Hites, Brandy Baughman, Nicole Heilman, Bridget Pifer, Tina Sams, and Katie Ketcham.

Scholastic Book Fair Volunteers

thumbnail_update

Please consider volunteering a few, one hour shifts at KES’s upcoming Spring “Feelin’ Groovy” Scholastic Book Fair this month.  “Preview Day” will be held on Friday, March 4th from 1:00 – 3:30 PM.

A “Family Night Event” will be held on Friday, March 4th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.  It’s free and open to all family and friends of KES students!  We will be showing a movie with popcorn and refreshments along with door prizes and fun games for all ages.

The actual book fair will run daily, Monday, March 7th through Friday, March 11th from 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM.  While students will have the opportunity to shop during their class schedule, they can also return before and after class, if needed.

With plenty of volunteers, like you, to help children select books, the transition from classroom to book fair and back will go swiftly and smoothly.  You help also means that students (and parents!) are more likely to be happy with their selections.  Finally, for KES to keep accurate accounts, we will need enough volunteers to handle the large volume of orders for your entire student population.

New this spring, KES PTO is providing all students a free $6 voucher to purchase a book/books for the value of up to $6 at the book fair.  The PTO believes it is important that every child has an opportunity to purchase a book at the book fair.  Here are key facts for YOU to know about how the student book voucher works:

  • Vouchers can only be used to purchase books!  (No trinkets or posters)
  • Vouchers can be used during your class’ shopping event or at a make-up shopping time.  Sorry, it cannot be used at the Family Event.
  • If the total purchase is under $6, the student will forfeit the remaining change.
  • If the total purchase is over $6, the student must provide the difference.

Around the World at KES

On February 23rd, the second graders at Kenton Elementary School hosted a family night called, “Around the World at KES.”

Second grade students have been studying different cultures and countries and this event was a great night for families to come and experience a little bit of international culture.

At the event, students displayed their research projects, as well as, had displays from Italy, Australia, Brazil, and Ireland. Community members who have experienced some world traveling, exchange students from KHS, and the KATS international club brought artifacts, photos, and slide shows to share at the event.

At the end of the event, there was a drawing for door prizes and gelato (a sweet Italian treat) was served.

Thanks to everyone who participated.
